Every operating system should be appropriately secured, especially end-user workstations, which often contain or permit access to company data and upon which most employee job duties are based.

Here is a checklist, created by Scott Matteson for TechRepublic Premium, for getting the maximum security protection out of your Windows 10 deployments.

    • Maintain a Windows 10 workstation template, which is continually patched and has any necessary software installed, and use this for new system builds.

    • Set up disk volumes using NTFS.

    • Use encrypted volumes via BitLocker or some other means to protect confidential data.

    • Unless as part of a business Office 365 ecosystem, do not use Microsoft accounts. Only utilize local Windows accounts.

    • Only permit necessary access to the system by authorized individuals responsible for performing business operations on it. All individuals who need to utilize it must have their own accounts on the system.

    • Turn on Windows Hello for fingerprint and facial recognition access capability.
