I believe a solid firewall and a VPN should be enough to protect your device from cyber threats. Just always be sure to be very cautious in public, especially when inputting secure passwords, as people can shoulder surf.

When using public Wi-Fi networks, securing your laptop is essential to protect sensitive data from potential threats. Here are the best practices to enhance security:

Use a VPN (Virtual Private Network): A VPN encrypts your internet connection, ensuring your online activities remain private and protected, even on unsecured networks.

Enable Firewall: Make sure your laptop’s firewall is activated. This acts as a barrier against unauthorized access attempts while you’re connected to public Wi-Fi.

Turn Off Sharing: Disable file and printer sharing, as well as network discovery when using public networks to reduce the risk of unauthorized access.

Use HTTPS: Ensure websites are loaded with HTTPS, indicated by a padlock symbol, to encrypt data transferred between your laptop and the website.

Avoid Sensitive Transactions: Try to avoid logging into banking sites or making financial transactions when on public Wi-Fi.

Keep Software Updated: Regularly update your operating system, browsers, and security software to patch any vulnerabilities.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): For extra security, enable 2FA on the accounts you use to make it harder for attackers to access your data.

These methods, in combination with a VPN, will offer a more comprehensive defense against threats.
