macOS Big Sur very slow to open

    Hello !

I recently went from macOS High Sierra to macOS Big Sur on my Macbook Pro because I needed the update for some of my softwares.

Since the update, my mac is very slow to load the user session.
When starting my mac, it goes to the page where I can choose which session to load fairly quick. Then, when I choose my user session, it takes from 10 to 15 minutes to load, with the loading bar stopped half way.

Is this a known issue ? I can’t seem to find a way to fix it.

    Thank you.

I’ve lost count of my SSD upgrades over the past few years.

I recently changed the hard disk for my PC and I ordered a new one from Amazon if you want a new one then you can purchase this on amazon using a discount code but you need an old one then I will find my old hard drive for you.

and lacking any information regarding your MBP I could guess at very low disk space, insufficient RAM or even just old age.
You’ll probably say that it ran great under High Sierra but that was a much smaller and less demanding than Big Sur.
You skipped over two other MacOS versions and I wonder what software you have that demanded v11 (Big Sur) and not 10.15 (Catalina), remember you were two OS versions behind before you jumped to Big Sur.
A few specs on your MBP, RAM, HDD or SSD, Model, all found in “About this Mac” and how much room you have left on the drive would be helpful
Note Bob’s subtle suggestion about a replacement SSD

Maybe your macOS has some malware that slows down your mac. Or your mac has various unnecessary files and app that is not in use, which also cover a big space in memory. So you need to remove these unwanted items from your mac.

possible reasons for your slow mac

      There can be some reasons:
      1. Your computer startup disk may not have enough free disk space. It’s better optimize storage first.
      2. It can be some apps that are using more memory. If so, quit the app immediately.
      3. If there are some apps that you are not using now. it’s better remove them.
      4. You can rely on the Activity Monitor to see if a particular activity is making a large demand on your mac. Good Luck!
